2009 HOLY ROSARY COUNCIL #4483 June NEWSLETTER

(Use the Calendar button on the K of C home page to View the entire calendar.)

Message from OUR GRAND KNIGHT

Brother Knights,

How quickly time passes! It seems like the fraternal year has just begun, but it is actually ending.

This will be my final GK message, although I will continue to do whatever I can to help the Council as a Trustee.

There have been many changes in the last year, some good, some less so. We have a continuing opportunity to grow the Council and increase the effectiveness of our programs. I am confident that the incoming officers will be successful in achieving these goals.

Our Worthy DGK Ed Wendling and I attended the State Convention, along with our Worthy DD Tony Beaudette. I was struck by a couple of thoughts presented:

1) "What Works - Team Work"

2) "We are one order"

The take-away is that we are not only about fundraisers, or social programs, or running a clubhouse. We are a Brotherhood of Catholic gentlemen serving our Churches, members, and communities, with the support of our State and Supreme Councils. Let's keep this is mind.

In closing, I would like to thank Tom Moriarty, who has worked so hard to get our message out to the membership through the newsletter, and has had to put up with the chronic tardiness of at least one newsletter contributor (me).

Vivat Jesus,

Bob Holpuch GK

Mother Mary, May I Take 3 Giant Steps – Bible / Prayer / Catechism

Are you interested in increasing your spirituality and your knowledge of the Catholic faith? Come join us for Mother Mary, May I … which is held at the Knights’ Hall on the last Wednesday of every month at 7:15 p.m.  In June, the focus will continue to be on the Acts of the Apostles and the sacraments. We will hear noted Catholic bible scholar, Jeff Cavins, discuss Acts and listen to Fr. John Corapi explain the sacraments based on their descriptions in the Catechism of the Catholic Church..

Please note that, on Wednesday, June 24, at 7:15 p.m., the session will be held at the home of the Schoenwalds' (303 N. Hickory Ave., just north of the KC Hall) due to a scheduling conflict. We will begin the session with the rosary, view the Jeff Cavins DVD on Acts chapters 8 - 15 (the second wave of Church expansion  - the old Kingdom of Israel), recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and view the Fr. Corapi DVD on “The Eucharist and the Sacrament of Penance.” This session will be repeated at the home of the Schoenwalds' on Saturday June 27, at 9:45 a.m.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Message from our Insurance Agent

If you’re like me, you derive great joy from your children. It’s a great feeling when a teacher, coach or fellow parent compliments you on your child. We all know that raising children these days is no easy task, especially when the values we’re trying to instill in them – concern for others, accepting responsibility for their actions, saving money rather than spending it – seem to run counter to what society is trying to teach them. Yet these are exactly the values that tend to draw compliments from teachers, coaches and fellow parents.

We also know that the best way to teach is by example. If you carry enough life insurance to protect your family, and if you share - with those of your children old enough to understand - why that’s important, you’re exhibiting and imparting many of the values you hope your children will absorb.

You’ll show them by example that you love them and are concerned about their welfare. You’ll show them that you take your responsibility to provide for your family seriously, and that you want to make sure they’re provided for even if you’re not around. And you’ll show them that investing money in your life insurance protection is more important than the new set of golf clubs you might want, the newest and best home theater system you’ve had your eye on, or whatever else you might be sacrificing to pay the premiums.

Sure, they’ll probably roll their eyes at you as you’re explaining this, and they’ll certainly moan and groan if they can’t get the newest CD, video game or piece of clothing. But they learn from what you do – just like they learn from what you don’t do. What lessons do you want to teach them?

I want to meet with you to review your existing coverage. Based upon that review, and on the comprehensive needs analysis that I’ll perform, free of charge, we’ll be able to put a plan in place that will meet your needs, goals and budget.
