Message from OUR GRAND KNIGHT (February 2009)
Brother Knights,
I hope that you had a great New Year's holiday, and that you are all keeping warm! This is the time of year when we are cut off from many of our favorite outdoor activities. There are, however, other opportunities to deepen our relationship with our families and our communities.
I would like to thank those who organized and ran the Free Throw Contest and the Major Degree, and the Squires leaders, both youth and adult, who continue to grow the program.

Mother Mary, May I Take 3 Giant Steps – Bible / Prayer / Catechism
Are you interested in increasing your spirituality and your knowledge of the Catholic faith? Come join us for Mother Mary, May I … held at the Knights’ Hall on the last Wednesday of every month at 7:15 p.m. Beginning in February, the focus is shifting to the New Testament and the sacraments.
We will hear noted Catholic bible scholar, Jeff Cavins, discuss the Gospel of St. Luke and the Acts of the Apostles and listen to Fr. John Corapi explain the sacraments based on their descriptions in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
On Wednesday, February 25, at 7:15 p.m., we will begin with the rosary, view the Jeff Cavins DVD on St. Luke chapters 1 – 9, recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and view the Fr. Corapi DVD on “The Introduction to the Sacraments.” This session will be repeated at the home of the Schoenwald’s on Saturday, March 7, at 9:45 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I Fr.Tom McCarthy Memorial Golf Outing Guys, it was discussed sometime ago of a Fr.Tom McCarthy Memorial Golf Outing with the intention of creating a scholarship at St. Viator in our Chaplin Emeritus name. The time is now to move this plan forward. I have never set up an outing as such and would offer my time in a non-directors role. That being said, if this worthy outing is to move forward, we need to organize a committee and have a chairman as such. I make myself available to begin the process of a committee and would wish for all who may be interested to contact me so we may begin. Consider what your efforts can mean to the Council and the Community at large.
Contact me and let's plan an initial meeting at the hall very soon.
Thank you in Christ, Mark Stastny, PGK.

Message from our Insurance Agent
April 15 - tax day - is right around the corner. It’s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax savings vehicle. A secondary approach is to tout the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn.
Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason. Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax return. And our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal. Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does a retirement income that you cannot outlive, – guaranteed – sound to you?
Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee – along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember – absolute safety of principal), really will provide you with peace of mind.
I am happy to meet with you – at your convenience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance and long term care insurance plans.
As you ponder all the things that may not work out as you proceed toward retirement, think about one thing you can do to help yourself – opening a Knights of Columbus annuity. It’s reasonably priced ($300 to start), guaranteed, and controlled by someone you trust – you!
Your Company is now crediting 4.50% on new Annuity premium deposits of $10,000 or more received in the Home Office between January 1st and March 31, 2009. This rate will be credited on these premiums until December 31, 2009, 4.25% will be credited on deposits under $10,000, 3.00% guaranteed! Early surrender charges may apply.
