(Use the Calendar button on the K of C home page to View the entire calendar.)

Message from OUR GRAND KNIGHT (March 2009)

Brother Knights,

The seasons are changing, and it appears that winter may finally give way to spring!  It’s time to start thinking about warm weather activities.

This is an important part of our liturgical year, with Lent and the approaching Easter season. Let us give evidence of our faith through our words and actions.

I would like to thank those members who helped with the Spelling Bee and the District Free Throw Contest. Both events increase our public exposure and polish our image in the community.

We will be having a First Degree at the March business meeting. Please invite any potential candidates to attend.

Vivat Jesus,

Bob Holpuch

Social Meeting -- March 19, 2009 -- 8:00 pm

Celebrate St. Joseph's Day  --  Bring a dessert to share for our St. Joseph's feast table, coffee and tea will be served.

Special Guest:  Mary Strom, Executive Director

Mary Strom assumed the position of Executive Director on May 11, 2004. Prior to this time, she had done some volunteer work for the Women's Center. Mary holds a B.S.B.A. degree in Marketing from John Carroll University, Cleveland, OH.  Mary has had major management responsibilities providing overall direction for operations of national kidney disease management programs. She helped build and expand this service program within Baxter International from its start-up status in 1997. She saw the importance of providing effective care to patients on kidney dialysis, including the need to address their many other medical needs. When this successful division was sold by Baxter, Mary decided that she desired to pursue even more direct involvement in Pro-Life work.

Mary explains, "My path to the Pro-Life movement began with the viewing of Schindler’s List. I have watched that movie dozens of times and read books such as The Hiding Place and Things We Couldn’t Say. My attraction was to the beauty of love shown between people in the midst of unimaginable hatred and violence, and always to the quiet but powerful presence and working of God to bring good out of evil. Every time I was left with the same question: what would I have done? Would I have been too afraid and concerned about my own well-being to help? Without knowing the common parallel drawn between abortion and the holocaust at that time, I came to my own prayerful understanding that we were in fact experiencing a third world war right now, and so, what was I going to do? In responding to that question I incorporated a full range of Pro-Life activities into my life such as prayer, bumper stickers, participation in Pro-Life events, political action and making financial contributions. The more I have become involved, the greater my desire has grown to commit myself more fully to the cause of the unborn."

Message from our Insurance Agent

April 15 - tax day - is right around the corner. It’s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax savings vehicle. A secondary approach is to tout the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason.

Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax return. And our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal.

Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does a retirement income that you cannot outlive, – guaranteed – sound to you?

Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee – along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember – absolute safety of principal), really will provide you with peace of mind. I am happy to meet with you – at your convenience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance and long term care insurance plans.

As you ponder all the things that may not work out as you proceed toward retirement, think about one thing you can do to help yourself – opening a Knights of Columbus annuity. It’s reasonably priced ($300 to start), guaranteed, and controlled by someone you trust – you! Call me at 847-259-4975, email robkofc@yahoo.com

Your Company is now crediting 4.50% on new Annuity premium deposits of $10,000 or more received in the Home Office between January 1st and March 31, 2009. This rate will be credited on these premiums until December 31, 2009, 4.25% will be credited on deposits under $10,000, 3.00% guaranteed! Early surrender charges may apply.
